Israeli Anger Over Palestinian Prisoner Release Sparks Attacks on Reporters Near Ofer
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera via Mehr News Agency, Israeli soldiers fired smoke grenades at journalists positioned near Ofer Prison.
Earlier reports indicated that tear gas had also been used against people present in the area. The Israeli forces appear unwilling to allow coverage of the Palestinian prisoners’ release.
A few minutes ago, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Office announced that buses carrying these prisoners-scheduled for release today under an agreement with Israel-had departed.
According to the report, buses transporting Palestinian prisoners left Ofer Prison heading toward Beitunia in Ramallah.
The buses carrying detainees from negev Prison are expected to arrive in the Gaza Strip.
Under this prisoner exchange deal, approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners will be freed in return for 20 Israeli captives.
