Trump Issues New Statement on Sharm El-Sheikh Summit
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, former US President Donald Trump posted a message on his social media platform, Truth Social, urging all “Middle Eastern countries and interested states” to work together towards achieving sustainable peace throughout the region.
Referring to the Sharm El-Sheikh summit but making no mention of Washington’s continuous support for Israel’s war machine or its role in arming forces accused of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, Trump claimed: “Now all those grate countries that have long and hard fought for this region must come together and finish the job! Gaza is only part of it. The main objective is peace in the Middle East!”
This claim about establishing peace comes as palestinian health Ministry data reports that Israeli military attacks on Gaza as October 2023 have killed 67,869 people.
The Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh hosted a meeting yesterday focusing on halting Israel’s war against Gaza’s besieged population. The summit was hosted by Egyptian Prime Minister abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Also present were Egyptian President el-Sisi himself, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani-the Emir of Qatar-Donald Trump, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. They signed a final agreement calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. According to Egypt’s presidential office, participants urged implementation of subsequent phases outlined in Trump’s ceasefire proposal.
The White House released Trump’s ceasefire plan for Gaza on September 28. the document contained 20 points outlining specific demands such as establishing a temporary foreign governance in Gaza and deploying international peacekeeping forces. on October 9, Trump announced that following negotiations representatives from Tel Aviv and Hamas had agreed on an initial ceasefire step. This included releasing all Israeli prisoners held by Hamas and withdrawal of Israeli forces from an agreed demarcation line within Gaza.
Hamas released all Israeli captives yesterday-totaling twenty hostages handed over. Meanwhile, through three prisoner exchange agreements secured by resistance groups during Operation Al-aqsa Storm battles, nearly 3,985 Palestinian detainees were freed from Israeli prisons.
