UNIFIL: Israeli Attacks on Lebanon Are the Biggest Obstacle to Implementing Resolution 1701
The United Nations decision to reduce peacekeeping forces worldwide by 25 percent will directly affect the operations of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), said Candice Ardell, UNIFIL spokesperson, according to webangah news Agency.
Ardell emphasized that the upcoming period will require arduous decisions amid complex challenges. The UN’s global troop cuts will influence UNIFIL’s ability to carry out its mission in southern Lebanon.
She added that UNIFIL is preparing a detailed plan to implement these reductions while minimizing disruption to its core duties on the ground.
Coordination continues with Lebanese authorities and contributing countries to mitigate negative impacts from the UN decision.Close cooperation with the Lebanese Army and supporting nations remains essential for maintaining stability in southern Lebanon.
Ardell described repeated incursions by Israeli forces into Lebanese territory as the largest obstacle hindering enforcement of Security council Resolution 1701, which calls for halting opposed actions and israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
She also praised ongoing collaboration between UNIFIL troops and the Lebanese Army.
