Southern Syria Erupts into Conflict Again
According too the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today, Syrian sources have reported an intensification and resumption of fighting in the city of As-Suwayda, located in southern Syria.
Reports indicate that several neighborhoods in As-Suwayda have witnessed heavy battles between armed groups.
So far, no official information has been released regarding potential casualties from these clashes.
The Al Jazeera website also reported on October 11 that signs of destruction remain visible in villages west and north of As-Suwayda. Residents displaced nearly three months ago are still unable to return to their homes. Their numbers are estimated between 170,000 and 200,000 people.
The conflict began on July 13 between forces loyal to the terrorist Julani regime and local Druze nomadic communities reportedly supported by the Zionist regime. The clashes have resulted in dozens of deaths, the displacement of tens of thousands of locals, the burning of about 36 villages, and numerous crimes against Druze civilians and Bedouin residents.
Mustafa al-Bakkour, governor of Suwayda province, had previously claimed he would encourage residents to return home and announced cash compensation for house repairs and reconstruction. However, none of these promises have been fulfilled.
Political activist Marwan Hamza cited ongoing security checkpoints in northern and western villages as a major obstacle preventing residents from returning. he noted that persistent thefts and looting continue even with security forces present inside burnt villages-raising doubts about Julani regime security apparatus’s failure to assert control effectively.
