Zelensky-Style Crackdown: Odessa Mayor’s Citizenship Revoked!
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and The New York Times, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revoked the citizenship of Henadiy Trukhanov, mayor of the city of Odessa, due to his alleged Russian nationality.
this move, which effectively removes the Odessa mayor from his official position, marks one of the sharpest escalations in tensions between Kyiv’s national authorities and local officials across Ukraine.
Local officials claim that Zelenskyy is abusing wartime powers to tighten control over cities and regions governed by opposition politicians.
Trukhanov, who has held office as 2014, denied holding Russian citizenship in a statement and announced plans to appeal to Ukraine’s Supreme Court. The Ukrainian constitution prohibits citizens from retaining Russian nationality.
