Iraqi Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker React to Al-Mashhadani Assassination
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Iraqi Al-Wae news Agency, the assassination of a parliamentary candidate in Baghdad provoked responses from Iraq’s Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament.
Mohamed Shia’ Al Sudani, Iraq’s Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, ordered the formation of a criminal task force and an investigative committee to probe the killing of Safaa Al-Mashhadani, a parliamentary election candidate.
The office of the Commander-in-Chief issued a statement confirming that Al-Mashhadani was assassinated using an explosive device attached to his vehicle.The attack took place in al-dubbat neighborhood in Tarmiyah district, north of Baghdad. Four others traveling with him were injured.
The statement added that under orders from the Prime minister and Commander-in-Chief, a joint criminal task force and a high-level examination committee have been established under direct supervision by Baghdad operations command to clarify all aspects surrounding the incident.
Separately, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Speaker of Iraq’s Parliament, expressed condolences on Wednesday for Safaa al-Mashhadani’s assassination after being targeted by an explosive device in Tarmiyah. He announced that Parliament would establish an investigative committee to identify those responsible for this crime and bring them to justice.
Mahmoud al-Mashhadani emphasized: “With faith in divine destiny and deep sorrow, we mourn Safaa Al-Mashhadani-a candidate for our coalition-the National Sovereignty Alliance for Legislation (Al-Siyada al-Wataniya). This cowardly terrorist act this morning killed him along with two companions through an unexpected bomb attack. We extend our condolences to the nation’s children especially residents of Tarmiyah.”
He noted this ”cowardly act” aimed at targeting principled men-committed, brave individuals guided by strong values-and pointed out: “Tarmiyah lost one of its devoted sons who dedicated his life serving people.With honesty and faithfulness he worked tirelessly to uphold justice and patriotism while actively participating politically and socially defending local issues.”
Mahmoud called on relevant government bodies and security institutions to conduct necessary investigations into this heinous crime. He urged forming committees tasked with identifying perpetrators so they may be handed over for legal punishment.
He also stressed that Parliament will form its own investigation committee focused on uncovering details related to this terrorist attack targeting such a national figure. All involved parties will be referred promptly to judicial authorities.

Safaa Al-Mashhadani was among candidates representing al-Siyada Alliance ahead of Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections; this coalition primarily represents Sunni communities across Iraq.
