Pakistan Agrees to Two-Day Ceasefire with Afghanistan
The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement announcing an agreement with the Taliban-led Interim Government of Afghanistan for a temporary 48-hour ceasefire starting at 6 p.m.local time today, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al jazeera and Mehr News Agency.
The statement added that both Pakistani and Afghan parties will make sincere efforts through dialog to find a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Today,Pakistani forces and Taliban fighters clashed again in the Kurram border area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Pakistani state media accused Afghan forces of opening fire first, claiming that pakistani troops returned fire against Afghan positions, destroying several tanks and border posts. Two Pakistani security officials confirmed these clashes in conversations with The Associated Press.
Islamabad also accused the Taliban of repeatedly targeting Pakistan’s border posts.
Meanwhile,Kabul asserted that their actions responded to violations of Afghanistan’s airspace and sovereignty.
