Afghanistan: Pakistan Has Violated the Ceasefire
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, reported that a spokesperson for the Afghan Interim Government claimed Pakistan breached the ceasefire by launching mortar attacks on Afghan territory.
The senior Taliban official told Al Jazeera, “We urge Pakistan to adhere to the ceasefire; otherwise, it will be responsible for its consequences.”
Agence France-Presse cited a medical source confirming that before the ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan was established, 40 civilians were killed in cross-border clashes between the two countries.
In another development, an Afghan security source told Al Jazeera about the release of five pakistani prisoners who had been captured during yesterday’s border fighting.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement on Wednesday that it had reached an agreement with Afghanistan’s Interim Government for a temporary 48-hour ceasefire.
