Venezuela Calls on Security Council to Declare U.S. Attacks Illegal
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, venezuela sent a letter to the UN Security Council requesting that it declare the deadly US attacks on vessels off its shores unlawful and issue a statement supporting Venezuela’s sovereignty.
The letter states that at least 27 people have been killed by the United States in attacks on civilian ships in international waters.
Reuters emphasized that due to America’s veto power, the Security Council is unable to take any action other than holding meetings on this issue.
On Tuesday evening, former President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social that under his orders, US military forces attacked a vessel off Venezuela’s coast, resulting in six deaths.
The US president claimed that the targeted vessel was carrying drug shipments.
Since last September, the United States has launched five attacks against Venezuelan boats under accusations of narcotics trafficking.
On Wednesday, the Trump governance authorized covert operations by the CIA in Venezuela. This authorization permits lethal operations either independently or alongside military forces.
The report added that US military officials have prepared various options for Trump’s consideration-among them potential strikes inside Venezuelan territory.
