Pro will declare a state of emergency

The new Peruvian cabinet announced that, due to widespread protests, a ⁤state of emergency will be declared in at‌ least ‌part of the country.

According to the English section of‍ webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Agence France-presse, Peru’s ‌new‍ cabinet has declared a state of emergency in lima, the ⁢nation’s capital, in response to ⁤ongoing violence linked to organized crime that has sparked widespread protests.

On Wednesday, after popular demonstrations⁢ escalated into street clashes near the Congress building in Lima, hundreds were injured and one person was shot dead by a police officer.

Following ⁤a meeting, Cabinet Chief Ernesto Álvarez told reporters: “We have decided to declare a state of emergency at least throughout ‍the metropolitan area of Lima.”

Last Friday, Peru’s Congress ⁢voted 118-in favor of removing president Dina Boluarte from office.

In an overnight session dominated by majority votes, lawmakers ousted ‍Boluarte ‌amid a series of financial, ethical, and political scandals. The official cause for her removal was⁤ cited as “permanent ‍moral incapacity,” an accusation that grew amid months of protests and public dissatisfaction with ⁤her government.

Boluarte did not attend the‍ session or defend ⁢herself. Her absence allowed parliamentarians to expedite the impeachment process rapidly.

The speaker of Congress will manage national affairs until ⁣elections scheduled ‍for April ⁣next year take place.
