Madagascar Coup Leader: We Are Ready to Negotiate with the African Union
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Anadolu Agency, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, commander of Madagascar’s military coup, announced his readiness to negotiate with the African Union. The AU suspended Madagascar’s membership a day earlier following the removal of president andry Rajoelina.
In a press conference, Colonel Randrianirina stated: “This decision was expected. From now on, there will be behind-the-scenes negotiations. We need to see how things will develop.”
He added that he is scheduled to be sworn in as president today during a ceremony held by the supreme Constitutional Court in Antananarivo, the capital.
Though, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres previously condemned what he termed an unconstitutional change of government on this island nation and called for a return to constitutional order and respect for the rule of law.
