Madagascar Coup Leader: We Are Ready to Negotiate with the African Union

The commander of ⁣MadagascarS military coup, after the⁣ country’s suspension from the African Union, said ⁢he ​is ​ready to negotiate with⁤ the organization.

according to the English section of webangah ‌News Agency, ‍citing Mehr‌ News Agency ‍and Anadolu Agency,‌ Colonel Michael Randrianirina, commander ⁣of Madagascar’s‌ military ⁣coup, announced his readiness⁤ to negotiate with the African Union. The⁤ AU suspended Madagascar’s membership a day​ earlier following the‍ removal of ⁢president andry Rajoelina.

In a press conference, Colonel Randrianirina stated: “This decision was expected. From now on, there will ​be ‍behind-the-scenes ⁣negotiations. We need to ⁣see how things will develop.”

He added that he is scheduled to be sworn in as‌ president today during a ceremony held by the supreme⁣ Constitutional Court in Antananarivo, the⁤ capital.

Though, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres previously ​condemned what ‌he termed an ‍unconstitutional change of government on this island nation and called for a return to constitutional order and respect for the rule of law.
