Russia and US Begin Talks on 100-Kilometer Tunnel Construction; Trump Calls It Fascinating
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr news Agency and TASS, Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the russian Direct Investment Fund and special presidential envoy for economic cooperation with other countries, stated that discussions have started on building a tunnel across the Bering Strait connecting russia and the United States.
Dmitriev wrote on X: “Talks about the tunnel are beginning.”
The plan for a 100-kilometer tunnel beneath the Bering Strait has been under consideration for decades. Dmitriev previously said it could be completed within eight years at a cost not exceeding $8 billion.He added that this project could open doors to joint exploration of natural resources between the two nations.
During a meeting at the White House with ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Donald Trump described the tunnel idea as appealing.
