Gaza Medical Relief Society: 170,000 Injured in Gaza Require Surgery
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera network, the director of the medical Relief Society in Gaza stated that 170,000 wounded people need surgical treatment. Though, due to a shortage of medical supplies, carrying out these operations is unfeasible.
The International Committee of the Red Cross and UNRWA have called for the reopening of crossings and easing access for aid shipments into Gaza. The head of the ICRC told El País newspaper that because of extensive destruction in Gaza, identifying remains has become very arduous. He also urged authorities to reopen crossings and facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries to residents.
Simultaneously occurring, UNRWA reported it holds enough food supplies in warehouses in Jordan and Egypt to meet all needs in Gaza for three months. However, these aid shipments must be allowed entry without delays or obstacles.
Since March 2nd, Israel has entirely closed all crossings into Gaza Strip, blocking food, medicine, and other essentials. Thousands of trucks are waiting at Egypt’s Rafah crossing-the sole land gateway between Gaza and Egypt-but Israel continues to refuse reopening its own border points. Israeli officials link this refusal to negotiations over returning remains of captured soldiers still held by Palestinian factions.
