Hamas Urges Mediators to Pressure Israel to Reopen Rafah Crossing

A senior Hamas official reaffirmed the ​group’s commitment to the initial phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and urged mediators to pressure Israel into ⁢reopening the Rafah crossing.

According to⁣ the English section of webangah News ‍Agency, ​quoting Mehr News Agency, Muhammad Nazzal, a leader ⁤of the Islamic Resistance Movement⁣ Hamas, ‌told Al Jazeera Mubasher that Hamas remains committed‌ to implementing provisions related to returning live Israeli captives and handing over recovered bodies.He stated, “We are committed to delivering live captives and what we have obtained of ‌Israeli prisoners’ bodies.”

Nazzal emphasized that Hamas opposes holding Palestinians hostage⁣ by closing the⁤ Rafah crossing. He called on mediators to pressure the israeli ‌occupation regime into opening Rafah in⁣ accordance with the terms of the agreement.

He added that while Hamas is willing to‌ move flexibly into the second phase after fulfilling commitments in phase one, negotiations for this next stage have ​not yet begun. Nazzal blamed Netanyahu’s obstinance for this ⁣delay.

Nazzal also ⁤highlighted the urgent need for heavy equipment and specialized⁢ technical teams to recover bodies⁢ trapped under‍ rubble. He said Hamas has submitted a list⁤ of more than ‌40 autonomous national figures from which a‍ committee of technocrats can be selected to manage Gaza’s affairs.
