Trump Repeats Drug Allegation, This Time Against Colombian President

The U.S. president has cited a similar pretext used against Venezuela to justify overt military intervention in the Caribbean, targeting Colombia’s president.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News⁣ Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Sunday on his social media platform Truth Social that Gustavo Petro,⁢ Colombia’s president, is an illegal drug lord ⁤who actively promotes widespread drug production on large and small farms across Colombia.

Trump, who previously used this justification for potential intervention in Venezuela, asserted that drug trafficking has become Colombia’s biggest business. ‌He accused Petro of‍ doing nothing to stop it despite extensive payments and subsidies from the United States – which Trump called a long-term scam against America. He declared that from now on, such payments or any form of subsidy to Colombia will cease immediately.

Trump further claimed that the purpose of this drug production is to ‍sell massive quantities within the United States causing death, destruction, and chaos. Addressing‌ Petro as an unpopular leader with hostile rhetoric toward America, Trump⁤ warned‌ him to shut down these “death‍ plantations” immediately or face forced closure by U.S. action – ⁢which “will not be pleasant.”

This comes amid strong criticism by Gustavo Petro who previously⁣ accused U.S. officials of committing “murder” and violating Colombian sovereignty within its territorial waters.

petro also stated that Alejandro Caranza, a⁣ Colombian fisherman recently detained by authorities, had no involvement with drug trafficking and was simply engaged in his routine fishing activities.
