Bolivia Elects New President
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Sputnik News, Rodrigo Paz, a centrist and right-leaning senator, won Bolivia’s presidential election.
Paz’s victory marks an end to two decades of leftist socialist rule amid a severe economic crisis facing Bolivia.
The 58-year-old secured 54.5 percent of the vote in the runoff election. He gained public support with an economic plan focused on cutting government spending-especially fuel subsidies-strengthening private sector growth, and promising a “capitalism for all” model based on decentralization and fiscal discipline.
Simultaneously occurring, internal conflicts between prominent figures in Bolivia’s Socialist Party prevented current president Luis Arce and former President Evo Morales from uniting behind a single candidate for this election.
