Warning Issued Over Growing Turkish Military Influence in Iraq
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al-Maloma via Mehr News agency, Uday Abdulhadi, a member of the Coordination Framework coalition, emphasized that Turkey’s military footprint within Iraqi territory has expanded considerably, with the number of its military bases reaching 80.
He added that Turkey’s military presence in Iraq is illegal and unjustified-especially as a peace agreement between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Ankara has been signed, rendering previous excuses irrelevant.
Abdulhadi stated that the increase in Turkish military bases raises many questions regarding Ankara’s intentions. While principles of good neighborliness and security coordination can strengthen stability between the two countries, turkey’s military presence remains a concern across all political circles. He stressed that Iraq is fully capable of securing its own safety.
