Tel Aviv Issues Fear-Driven Warning to Zionist Regime Diplomats
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Yedioth Ahronoth via Mehr News Agency, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning to its diplomats and employees after reports emerged that their phone numbers were being added to active WhatsApp groups in Iran.
One Israeli security official told the outlet that recent reports indicated individuals were being added to WhatsApp groups without their contacts’ permissions.These groups are created and managed by unfriendly actors using phone numbers from inside Iran, Pakistan, and other regions. The official stressed the importance of vigilance regarding any such group invitations and advised changing phone settings so only saved contacts can add users to groups.
Ynet reported that this internal memo followed multiple accounts of Israelis being targeted on social media for recruitment by Iranian intelligence, including TehranS attempts at intimidation and recruitment through direct contact with Israelis.
The Times of Israel noted that last month, Israel’s Cyber Security Directorate announced an inquiry into a wave of reports from Israelis receiving calls allegedly from Iran.These included recorded messages in Hebrew aimed at recruitment, threats, and intimidation.
The report further stated that during June’s 12-day conflict with Iran, several prominent Israeli politicians received threatening calls from Tehran.It also revealed that Iranian operatives hacked former Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet shaked’s mobile phone; she holds a degree in computer engineering.
According to the Times of Israel, “Most espionage suspects initially start by performing seemingly harmless tasks for payment which gradually escalate into more serious offenses like details gathering and planning assassination operations.”
