US Opposes Using Blocked Russian Assets for Ukraine
The English section of webangah News Agency, referencing Mehr News Agency and Bloomberg, quoted informed sources saying that the United States disagreed with the European Union’s proposal for G7 countries to expand the use of Russia’s frozen assets to support Ukraine.
According to these unnamed sources, U.S. officials informed their European counterparts during discussions held last week on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund meeting in Washington that they would not join this initiative at this time.
One source stated that the United States cited concerns about market stability risks as its reason for reluctance.
Bloomberg reported that Washington notified European nations it would not participate in plans to use Russian assets for a €140 billion loan facility aimed at Kyiv.
The American authorities saeid they made this decision due to potential threats to financial market stability.
