Trump Expresses Doubt That Ukraine Can Defeat Russia

U.S. President says that ⁢even though he believes Ukraine might be able to defeat Russia, he now ⁣doubts it will happen.

According to the English section⁤ of ‌ webangah News‍ Agency, citing the‍ Associated Press,U.S. President Donald Trump ‌made ambiguous ⁣remarks highlighting Ukraine’s apparent inability to defeat Russia in the ongoing‍ war.

Trump’s‍ latest comments deepen his earlier ⁤doubts about Kyiv, even as he plans to meet Russian President‌ Vladimir Putin face-to-face in Budapest, Hungary, in the ‍coming weeks to ⁤discuss ending the ukraine conflict.

Before a meeting at the White House with ⁤Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Trump told ⁤reporters: “They (Ukraine) can still win. I don’t think it will happen, ‍but they can win.”

Last month, Trump shifted from his longstanding⁢ position that Ukraine ‌should cede some ⁣territory and cannot reclaim all areas occupied by Russia.

Though, after lengthy talks with Putin last ‍week and a subsequent meeting with Ukrainian ⁤President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump reversed course again. He urged both Kyiv and Moscow⁢ to “stop fighting on the current front lines” and bring an end to the war.

Addressing his repeated changes of stance on kyiv’s prospects in the conflict,⁣ Trump offered a grim assessment: ⁣”I never said they would win. I said they could. Anything is possible. You know, war is a very strange‍ thing!”
