Sofia Proposes Bulgarian Air Corridor for Putin’s Use to Moscow
Bulgaria is prepared to open its airspace for Vladimir Putin’s journey to Budapest, where the Russian president will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, Georgi Georgiev, Bulgaria’s foreign minister, told webangah News Agency English service citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today.
trump and Putin agreed during a phone call last week to hold talks in Budapest at an unspecified date. Their discussions aim to explore solutions toward resolving the war in Ukraine.
Georgiev emphasized that Bulgaria will not create any obstacles. He said, ”When efforts are made toward achieving peace and if holding a meeting is part of that process, the most reasonable option is to organize such a meeting by any possible means.”
He added, “If one party cannot be present, how can such a meeting be arranged?”
bulgaria does not share a border with Hungary but both countries border Serbia-a nation known for kind relations with Russia and refusal to implement sanctions against Moscow.
Hungary is one of the few European Union members that opposed diplomatic sanctions on Russia. In June 2023, Budapest withdrew from the International Criminal Court (ICC), which issued an arrest warrant against Putin this year accusing him of war crimes in Ukraine. Russia rejects this ruling as legally invalid since it is not a member of the court.
