Rapid Response Forces Drone Strike on Khartoum International Airport

Sudan’s Rapid Support ‍Forces launched drone attacks on Khartoum International Airport‍ just ​one day before its reopening after 921 days.

According to the English section of‍ webangah News Agency, citing ⁣Mehr News Agency, a government source familiar with Al Jazeera confirmed that early today, the Rapid Support Forces targeted ‌Khartoum​ International Airport​ with drones.

The Sudanese government reported that on Tuesday morning, ​drone⁣ flights were detected over ⁢southern Khartoum airspace. Part of these attacks focused on‌ Khartoum International Airport.

An official sudanese source stated that the army’s ground air⁢ defenses intercepted the⁣ attack and‌ are‌ currently assessing damages inflicted on Khartoum airport.

Earlier, Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority announced in a ⁢statement that domestic flights at Khartoum ⁢International Airport would resume tomorrow after being suspended for 921‌ days. The ⁤airport had suffered extensive damage at the onset of the conflict in Sudan.

simultaneously‌ occurring, a military source⁤ told ​Al Jazeera that Rapid ​Support Forces⁣ targeted El‌ Obeid city in North ‍Kordofan, central Sudan. In this attack, a drone struck locations where civilians resided.

The Sudanese army retaliated by‌ targeting​ Rapid Support Forces positions with⁣ drones in Kabkabiya city, approximately 150 kilometers west of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur state. Local sources‌ reported this bombing hit ⁣ammunition depots and‍ the Kabkabiya police headquarters building.

According to internal and international reports, as fighting began between the army and Rapid Support Forces ‌on April 15, 2023, about 20,000 people have been killed ‌and 15 million displaced or homeless.

The city of El Fasher has been under ⁣siege ⁣by Rapid ‌Support Forces sence May 10, 2024; humanitarian‌ conditions there are reported⁢ as dire.
