Lazzarini: Education in Gaza Must Not Be Disrupted
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Shehab News Agency, Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stated that Gaza’s children have been brutally deprived of education amid severe deprivation and psychological distress.
He added that restoring children’s access to education is UNRWA’s top priority following the ceasefire. Around 60,000 children have benefited from temporary learning spaces set up in refugee shelters. Additionally, 300,000 children will receive essential remote education with support from UNRWA teachers.
Lazzarini emphasized that most schools in gaza have either been destroyed or severely damaged and urgently require rebuilding. As winter approaches, UNRWA has called for tents and blankets to protect the children.
He further stated that over eight thousand teachers are ready to resume educational activities in Gaza. He stressed that education must not be suspended, warning that despair is the greatest enemy facing Gaza’s children.
