Lavrov Responds to Poland’s Threat Against Putin’s Plane
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Izvestia via Mehr News Agency,Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reacted to reports from American media about a possible delay in the upcoming meeting between russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Budapest. He also addressed calls for an end to the war in Ukraine.
Lavrov stated that the moast critical issue regarding preparations for the Russia-US summit is not its time or venue but how progress will be made based on understandings reached in Alaska.
The senior diplomat added that he would like to officially confirm that Russia’s position on these understandings, negotiated extensively between Putin and Trump in Alaska, has not changed.
He explained that these agreements were based on a consensus at that time, with Trump briefly outlining them as aiming for sustainable long-term peace rather than an immediate ceasefire which would yield no results.
The Russian foreign minister emphasized, “We remain fully committed to this formula,” highlighting this point during his conversation yesterday with marco Rubio.
Lavrov further noted that demands for an immediate end to the war disregard its root causes in Ukraine-issues clearly recognized and articulated by the U.S. government since Trump’s administration began.
Regarding Warsaw’s threat not to guarantee security for Putin’s plane over Polish airspace, Lavrov said Poland appears ready to carry out terrorist attacks themselves. He mentioned having heard Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski threaten that ensuring security for Putin’s aircraft during its flight through Polish airspace en route to his meeting with Trump in Budapest will not be guaranteed.
Lavrov added: ”Poland justified its attack on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline through a formal court ruling; now thier foreign minister claims Warsaw will block free passage of the Russian president’s plane if their courts so request.”
