59 Percent of Americans Support Establishing an Independent Palestinian State
A recent survey reported by the English section of webangah News Agency cited Reuters, revealing that half of Americans back official US recognition of the State of Palestine.
The Reuters poll found that a majority of Americans-including 80 percent of Democrats and 41 percent of Republicans-believe Washington should recognize Palestine as a state. this highlights a disconnect between public opinion and former President Donald Trump’s stance.
The six-day survey, which concluded on Monday, showed 59 percent support for US recognition, while 33 percent opposed it; the remaining respondents where either unsure or did not answer.
In recent weeks, several countries have formally recognized Palestine. This move has been condemned by Tel Aviv, whose establishment in 1948 led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and decades-long conflict.
About 60 percent of those surveyed said Israel’s response in Gaza has been excessive; 30 percent disagreed with this view.
Additionally, approximately 51 percent agreed with the statement that “Trump deserves significant credit if his peace efforts succeed,” while 42 percent disagreed.
