Khartoum Airport Targeted in Drone Attack
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, a Sudanese military source told Al Jazeera that explosions were heard simultaneously with the flight of drones over Khartoum.
The source stated that Rapid Support Forces drones targeted Khartoum airport in the early hours of today.
The source emphasized that these drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces will never affect flights at Khartoum International Airport.
This source also reported intense clashes between the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces in Al-Fashir city.
Armed conflict erupted on April 15, 2023, between the army under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemeti. The two factions are battling for power. So far, international mediation efforts to end the fighting and bring both sides to negotiations have failed.
According to United Nations data, fighting between these two major military forces in Sudan continues amid ongoing violence and hunger, resulting in eight million displaced people.
Nearly 25 million people-about half of sudan’s population-are living in dire conditions due to continued war and urgently require aid. Additionally, 18 million face risk of famine.
Several ceasefires have been declared through international mediation; though, they have been repeatedly violated by both sides.
