US Sanctions Colombian President

The US Treasury Department announces sanctions against the president of Colombia.

According to the English section of webangah⁢ News Agency, quoting Reuters via Mehr News ‍Agency, the US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against Gustavo Petro, the President of Colombia.

Last Sunday, former President ‍ Donald Trump claimed on his⁣ social media platform Truth Social that Gustavo Petro is an illegal drug cartel leader who ⁤actively encourages large- and small-scale drug production across ⁢Colombia’s farmlands.

Trump,⁣ who previously used similar‍ claims to⁤ justify military interventions in Venezuela and the Caribbean, asserted that drug trafficking⁣ has ⁢become Colombia’s biggest ⁣business. He accused Petro of failing to stop it ‌despite substantial payments and subsidies from the United States-calling these aid funds a long-running fraud against America. From this day forward, such payments or any form of ‌subsidies to Colombia will cease.
