Venezuela: U.S. Sanctions on Petro Are Illegal

Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry condemns U.S. sanctions on Colombia’s ‍president as illegal.

According to the English section ⁢of webangah ⁣News Agency, citing Al ⁣Mayadeen via Mehr News Agency,Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry condemned the U.S. ‌Treasury Department’s sanctions against Gustavo petro, the President of Colombia.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry emphasized that the U.S. actions against President petro are illegal and illegitimate, describing them as‍ neocolonial in nature.

The⁣ ministry also asserted that these measures aim to criminalize Gustavo petro ⁢and further destabilize Colombia.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced earlier that it ⁤had imposed sanctions targeting Gustavo Petro.

It stated that ‍these sanctions block all assets and ownership rights⁤ belonging to President Petro and his family within the United States.

Last Sunday, former U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform Truth⁣ Social, alleging that Gustavo Petro is an unlawful drug lord who actively encourages large- and small-scale drug production across Colombia.

Trump, who ‍has previously used similar accusations to justify overt military intervention in ‌Venezuela within the Caribbean region, claimed: “This has become Colombia’s biggest business, and petro does nothing to stop it despite extensive payments and subsidies from the United states-which amount to a long-term scam against America. From today onward, these payments or any form of subsidy to Colombia will cease.”
