Warning Over US Use of ISIS Leverage to Remain in Iraq
An Iraqi lawmaker warns that the United States is exploiting the ISIS threat to maintain its presence in the country.
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al-maalomah, Iraqi parliament member Mohammad Karim warned that the U.S. is using the pretext of an ISIS resurgence as leverage to delay its withdrawal from Iraq until the end of this year.
He added that behind recent regional developments, the United States, with support from certain regional countries, acts to serve the interests of the Israeli regime.
The Iraqi representative emphasized that Washington is reinforcing its military presence despite Iraq’s security forces-including Popular Mobilization Units-being fully capable of pursuing remaining ISIS elements. He noted that ISIS has effectively lost its on-the-ground power.
