ISIS Escalates Terrorist Attacks in Kurdish Regions of Syria

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal published a field report highlighting the resurgence of ISIS in Syria amid a security void. The extremist group’s attacks are rising as it’s militants exploit the reduced U.S. presence and the collapse of former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The report states that armed ISIS fighters targeted Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) patrols 20 times in May, resulting in 15 Kurdish fighters wounded and 10 killed.
SDF military commanders described May as their deadliest month sence 2019, before ISIS was dismantled in Syria.
The Syrian kurdish leadership emphasized changes in ISIS tactics. Fighters now operate within small sleeper cells, carrying out ambushes and planting roadside bombs on orders. They noted these “low-cost” operations are arduous to detect and eliminate.
Simand Ali, spokesperson for the People’s Protection Units (YPG), said ISIS militants rely on small teams of four or five members during operations, each armed with an AK-47 rifle and improvised explosive devices.
