Massive Explosion Rocks Iraqi Oil Field + Video
Iraqi media report a powerful explosion at one of the country’s oil fields.
An early Sunday morning fire at one of the main turbines in the Al-Zubair oil field, located in the Al-Burjisiya area west of Basra, triggered a large explosion in the region, according to Sumeria News, as cited by webangah News Agency.
Iraqi forces succeeded in extinguishing the fire before it spread to other facilities in the region.
The explosion occurred within the turbine section used for oil pumping. At least six peopel were reported injured; some outlets also mentioned one fatality and 25 injuries. The Basra Oil Company has launched an investigation into the cause of this incident. The Al-Zubair field is one of Basra’s most prominent oil sites, operated jointly by Italian company Eni and Basra Oil Company.
