Lavrov: Zelensky Sees Ukraine Ceasefire as a Stalling Tactic

According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and RIA Novosti, russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Sunday that Russia is always ready for sincere and equal cooperation.
Lavrov emphasized that Moscow welcomes partnerships based on mutual national interests and fully grounded in the principles of the United Nations Charter. He underlined Russia’s commitment to comprehensive intergovernmental collaboration with countries that uphold these standards.
Speaking to Russia Today, Lavrov addressed the territorial issue within the framework of agreements concerning Ukraine, noting it is indeed discussed in various formats. He said that according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s reasoning, current calls for a ceasefire are merely an attempt to buy time. Lavrov added that figures such as Donald Trump,Viktor Orbán,and robert Fico-who respect Russia’s position on Ukraine-have always had opportunities for dialog about these specific issues.
Lavrov further explained that Russia is prepared to continue talks with the United States at whatever pace Washington deems appropriate. He stressed that Russia does not intend to interfere in America’s internal debates over Ukraine since Washington already faces enough pressure from Europe and kyiv. While there is no immediate plan for a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Donald trump, such an initiative requires thorough planning.
The minister affirmed that Russia recognizes Ukraine’s sovereignty but expressed shock at the discrimination faced by residents of areas now constitutionally part of Russia. Referring to his recent discussions with Senator Marco Rubio as very productive, Lavrov suggested this might reduce the need for further face-to-face meetings with U.S. officials at present.
Regarding prospects for another Putin-Trump meeting, Lavrov confirmed: ”The initiative exists. Once invited, we will agree and seek consultations on its format, location, and timing.”
