Hiriyit: PKK Movements in Iraq and Syria Likely to Cease

Turkey’s Hurriyet newspaper reports a possible end too PKK activities in Syria⁢ and ‌Iraq.

According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News ⁣Agency and Russia ⁤Today, Turkey’s Hurriyet newspaper reported ⁣that the likely ⁤withdrawal of ‍the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants from Turkey may pave the way for a complete cessation of their⁤ operations‍ in Syria and ‍Iraq.

The report states that this process is being carried out under the ‍supervision of Turkish intelligence. The next phase involves‌ evacuating PKK bases ‍in northern Iraq.

It further emphasizes⁢ that the first ⁤phase-halting PKK movements inside Turkey and their withdrawal from Turkish ⁤territory-has effectively been completed.

Yesterday, a spokesperson⁢ for Turkey’s Justice and Advancement ⁢Party stressed that terrorists’ withdrawal from Turkey, along with ‍new steps toward ⁣disarmament, ​represents progress toward achieving the ultimate ⁢goal.

The PKK⁤ announced yesterday that it⁣ has ended its ⁤activities inside Turkey. The group stated that some members relocated ​from border areas inside⁢ Turkey to the Kurdistan Region ‌of ⁤Iraq, ⁢while remaining militants will move if Turkey commits to peace efforts.

Notably, on February 27, 2025, Abdullah Öcalan, leader of the PKK, called on party members to lay down arms, hold‌ a congress, and dissolve the organization. Following this directive,the PKK​ held its twelfth congress ​between May⁣ 5-7 and ‌decided⁣ to disband itself.

In connection‍ with these developments, on July 11 at a ceremony held in Jesne Cave near Dokan district in Sulaymaniyah province, several PKK‍ members ‌demonstrated goodwill toward advancing peace talks by burning their ⁤weapons.
