Iraq High Electoral Commission Member: Election Day Declared a Holiday

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al-Furat News via Mehr News Agency,Hassan Hadi Zayer,a member of Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission, stated that the closure on election day for armed forces in next November’s parliamentary elections will apply only to schools and is not a nationwide shutdown.
Zayer explained that decisions regarding a public holiday for government employees fall under the authority of the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
He noted that starting November 6, the commission will take control of schools designated as polling centers.
The Iraqi official added it is natural for these schools to close as they prepare for voting by armed forces personnel. However, he said there is no details about closing government offices during the elections.
Zayer emphasized that election day itself-November 11-will be observed as an official national holiday across Iraq.
