Iraq High Electoral Commission Member: Election Day Declared a Holiday

A member of Iraq’s Independent High‍ Electoral ‌Commission announced that the parliamentary election day, November 11, will be an official public​ holiday‍ in the country.

According to the⁤ English section of webangah News​ Agency,citing Al-Furat News via Mehr News Agency,Hassan Hadi Zayer,a ​member ‌of Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission,stated that the closure ‌on election day‍ for ⁣armed forces in‍ next November’s parliamentary elections will apply only ‍to schools and is not a nationwide shutdown.

Zayer explained that decisions⁣ regarding a public holiday for government employees fall under the authority of the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.

He noted that starting November 6, the commission will take control of ⁢schools designated as polling centers.

The ⁢Iraqi official added it is natural ⁢for these schools to close as they prepare for voting by ‍armed forces personnel. However, he said there is no details about⁣ closing ⁢government offices⁣ during​ the elections.

Zayer emphasized that election⁣ day itself-November 11-will be observed as an ⁣official national holiday across Iraq.
