Rabbis’ Conference in Baku Canceled

The english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and the analytical news platform Yakın Doğu Haber, reported that the European Rabbis Conference planned for November 3-6 in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, has been rescheduled to another date for security reasons.
According to this source, the conference will also take place at a different venue.
Officials confirmed that “for security reasons,” the event has been postponed both in terms of timing and location.
The report adds that “several hundred thousand shekels” have already been invested in organizing this event.
The organizers said the decision followed protest calls from some Azerbaijani citizens as well as residents of Turkey and iran on social media platforms. It was also based on an assessment of the “current geopolitical situation.”
This proclamation comes after multiple reports indicated that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev intended to host the 70th anniversary meeting of European Zionist rabbis in mid-november. The conference was expected to gather nearly 500 Jewish rabbis from around the world.
