Al-Sudani: Iran Is an Important and Influential Country

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani said on Tuesday that without a just resolution to the Palestinian issue, the region will remain unstable and incidents will continue to recur.
Addressing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan concerning Gaza, he expressed his support for the proposal.
Al Sudani described Iran as an important and effective country, stressing the need to engage with it respectfully and through direct talks.
The iraqi Prime Minister underscored that Iraq’s relations with the United States should be based on partnership rather than unilateral decisions.
Referring to ISIS, he stated that it no longer poses a major threat in Iraq. According to assessments by the Ministry of Defense, around 400 to 500 ISIS members remain along Syria’s border and northeastern Iraq.
Al Sudani confirmed that a small military unit of U.S. advisers will stay at Al Asad Airbase to monitor the Syrian border.
He added that Iraq has begun security cooperation with Syria’s new authorities in combating terrorism and narcotics trafficking.
