Amnesty International: US Attack on Yemen Prison Likely a War Crime

Amnesty International has demanded an investigation into the U.S. airstrike on a prison in Yemen last April, warning that the attack could constitute a war crime, according to the English section of webangah News Agency.
On April 28, American fighter jets violated Yemeni airspace and bombed Saada province in northern Yemen. The strike targeted a detention facility controlled by Ansar Allah forces, resulting in the deaths of more than 60 African migrants held at the prison. The facility was known for detaining undocumented migrants.
U.S. military officials have yet to provide an explanation for the assault on this prison.
Amnesty International stated that there were no identifiable military targets within the prison and emphasized that international law prohibits targeting hospitals and detention centers.
The institution’s Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa stressed: “It is indeed tough to beleive that the United States did not know how many civilian casualties would result from this attack.”
