Security Council Condemns Rapid Response Forces’ Attack on Al-Fashir City

The United Nations Security Council, during an emergency meeting to review developments in Sudan, issued a statement condemning the Rapid Support Forces’ assault on El Fasher and its devastating impact on the city’s civilian population, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera.
The statement expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in and around El Fasher.
It called on the Rapid Support Forces to comply with the provisions of Resolution 2736.
The Security Council urged all parties involved in Sudan’s conflict to protect civilians and abide by international humanitarian law.
Since April 15, 2023, Sudan’s army and Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in a war. Numerous regional and international mediators have failed to bring it to an end. According to domestic and international reports, around 20,000 people have been killed and more than 15 million displaced during this conflict. Simultaneously occurring, a study conducted by american universities estimates the death toll at approximately 130,000.
