National Guard Mission in Washington Extended Through February 2026

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, The Washington Post reported that U.S. officials confirmed the trump administration has extended the National Guard’s deployment in Washington, D.C., until late February 2026.
This extension comes despite earlier estimates that the mission would expire at the end of November 2025.
The National Guard’s presence in Washington, D.C. has become a legal dispute between the U.S. federal government and the city’s Attorney General.
The Attorney General of Washington, D.C., has petitioned a judge to order approximately 2,000 National Guard troops to withdraw from city streets.
The report also notes that National Guard members’ rights have been jeopardized due to ongoing federal government shutdowns. The mission incurs daily costs estimated at nearly one million dollars.
In August last year, former President Trump announced deploying the National Guard in Washington, D.C., to support efforts against crime and violence.
