Torkham Border Crossing Between Pakistan and Afghanistan Reopens

The Torkham border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan, closed due to violent clashes between the two countries on October 11, has reopened today to allow the return of Afghan refugees, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency.
Pakistani officials visiting the Torkham crossing confirmed that it has reopened for Afghan refugees returning home and that trade activities have resumed at the border, reported Dawn newspaper.
Simultaneously occurring, Qari Badloon Qureshi, head of Details and culture in Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan, confirmed the reopening of Torkham for refugees and stated that returning citizens have been warmly welcomed.
Following cross-border clashes on October 11, Pakistan halted refugee movement and closed all borders with Afghanistan.
This decision left hundreds of vehicles and thousands of refugees stranded along the route from Nowshera city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to Torkham. Many suffered from lack of access to food and water during this period.
