Nigeria Responds to Donald Trump’s Threats

Nigeria’s government has vowed to continue its fight against extremism following recent threats by US President Donald Trump,who accused Nigeria of threatening Christians and placed the country on a special watch list.The declaration was reported by webangah News Agency based on details from Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera.
The Nigerian Foreign Ministry released a statement affirming that the federal government will continue to defend all citizens nonetheless of race,belief,or religion.
the statement emphasized that Nigeria is a religious country that respects faith, tolerance, diversity, and inclusiveness in accordance with international law principles.
On Friday, Trump announced that Nigeria-the largest oil producer and most populous country in africa-was added to the “Countries of Particular Concern” list alongside China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, and Pakistan for violating religious freedom.
Trump had previously listed Nigeria during his first term as president; however, his Democratic successor Joe Biden removed it from the list in 2021.
In a social media post, Trump wrote: “Christianity in Nigeria faces an existential threat. Thousands of Christians are killed by radical Islamists responsible for these massacres.”
Nigeria is home to over 200 ethnic groups practicing Christianity, Islam, and customary religions. The country has long experienced widespread violence-especially targeting Shia Muslims-a repression historically met without objection from successive US administrations.
