US Cites Pretext for New Military Mission in Mexico

The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and NBC News, states that according to two current U.S. officials, two former senior U.S. officials familiar with the matter, the Trump administration has begun planning a new deployment of troops and intelligence officers to Mexico under the pretext of targeting drug cartels.
According to two current U.S. officials, initial training for this potential mission-which would involve ground operations inside Mexico-has already started. However, one former and two current U.S. officials assert that an immediate deployment is not imminent.
The same two current officials added that discussions regarding the scope of this mission are ongoing and no final decision has been made.
They explained that american forces involved-many from the Joint Special Operations Command-would operate under oversight from U.S. intelligence agencies.
They also noted that Central Intelligence Agency officers would participate in these operations.
