Qatar Foreign Minister Delivers Strong Response to Critics of Tehran-Doha Relations
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Qatar’s Foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told CNN in an interview that iran is our neighbor, only 100 to 150 miles away. “We share the world’s largest gas field with Iran. Iran is part of our region, and we must engage with them,” he said.
He added, “We want to see Iran progress, develop, and succeed. We certainly do not seek an arms race in the region. We reject nuclear competition here and therefore consistently support diplomacy.we want Iran and the United States to reach an agreement so that iran’s nuclear program is monitored internationally and assured to be peaceful.”
Al Thani emphasized, “This is our responsibility. That is why qatar strives to resolve this issue and stands ready to assist.”
Regarding the United states, he stated: “America is our partner and ally. We are working to expand these relations not only in security and defense but also in energy,economy,and education.”
He noted that more than 10,000 US military personnel are stationed at a US airbase hosted by Qatar. American universities operate within Qatar as well as US energy companies.
On Qatar’s mediating efforts he explained: “Mediation forms part of our national security doctrine. Diplomacy is a tool for resolving conflicts-not for using force.”
