According to BBC reports, the U.S. government shutdown entered it’s 35th day, making it the longest in American history.
Many public services remain suspended; federal employees are on mandatory leave, and airports are experiencing disruptions.
on Monday, Trump’s administration agreed to use emergency funds to provide low-cost meals for more than 42 million low-income families.
There is still no clear solution to end this deadlock.
The federal government officially shut down on October 1 when much of its operations halted.
This is Trump’s first shutdown during his second presidential term.
The initial phase affected non-essential services, including federally funded national parks and museums. Subsequently, thousands of federal workers deemed “non-essential” were placed on unpaid leave. Over 587,000 federal employees have been furloughed so far.
Twelve attempts by Congress to reopen the government have failed as Democrats and republicans remain entrenched in their positions.
Congressional Democrats insist they will not vote to end the shutdown until Republicans negotiate an extension of healthcare subsidies. Meanwhile, Republicans say they will not negotiate until the government reopens.
