According to the English section of​ webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Anadolu Agency, Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor, cast ⁢his ballot as voting began ⁣in a highly competitive race.

Mamdani, 34, born in Uganda to indian parents,‍ could become New York’s first Muslim mayor. His campaign focuses on affordable‍ social⁤ services including public transportation, childcare, and ⁤rent-stabilized housing.

Polls show Mamdani leading with 46.1%, ahead of​ Andrew⁣ Cuomo at 31.8%⁤ and Curtis Sliwa at 16.3%.

Former President​ Trump has ⁢threatened to cut funding to New York if Mamdani wins-a claim the mayoral​ candidate dismissed as baseless and an empty‌ threat.
