Zahran Mamdani Pledges to End Islamophobia in New York

Zahran Mamdani, New York’s first muslim mayor-elect, announced his victory following the municipal elections. He said he will officially be sworn in as mayor in early January.
Mamdani pledged to work harder than ever to improve conditions across New york City.
The new mayor stated, “We will fight antisemitism and islamophobia in New York city. I thank all residents who voted for me and even those who supported my opponents for giving me this opportunity to prove I am worthy of their trust.”
Emphasizing his goal of making New York a better place to live,Mamdani added,”We won because we insisted that others’ politics should not be imposed on us. Our focus will be on tackling the cost-of-living crisis, making buses free, and providing comprehensive childcare.”
The city’s first Muslim mayor asserted, “New York will no longer be a place where Islamophobia is traded for electoral gain.”
He further declared: “We will end the corrupt system that has allowed billionaires like Trump to avoid taxes and abuse tax exemptions.”
Mamdani said plainly: “I am a Muslim and a democratic socialist, and I make no apologies for either.”
Bloomberg noted that this year’s New York City mayoral election saw the highest voter turnout in decades.
Andrew Cuomo, an independant candidate in the race, congratulated Zahran Mamdani on his official victory as mayor after results were finalized.
