Israeli Regime Intensifies Efforts to Recruit Spy from Gaza

According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, quds News Agency reported that the conflict in Gaza has evolved beyond battlefield and military dynamics, extending into cyberspace and espionage targeting civilians’ daily lives. The report reveals online campaigns in Gaza promoting recruitment into unit 504 of the Israeli army in exchange for food and security.
Unit 504 has operated for decades in human intelligence (HUMINT) gathering by recruiting spies. The unit exploits individuals’ financial hardships or psychological vulnerabilities to trap them.
The unit’s activities in Gaza during and after the recent war include:
- Gathering detailed information about Gaza residents, their locations, relatives, and conditions.
- Recruiting young people for direct contacts with intelligence officers or through alleged intermediaries.
- Creating virtual dossiers used later for blackmail, coercion,or influence.
- Sowing distrust and fear within Palestinian society by spreading discouraging narratives aimed at undermining public resilience.
How do Israeli propaganda and espionage campaigns operate?
The operation begins with creating pages that appear local. These pages use everyday Gazan language, real-life images from the ground, and slogans claiming humanitarian sympathy. Financing ensures these pages are accessible to users inside Gaza.
After Gazans engage with these channels, private messages are sent via Facebook, WhatsApp, or Telegram requesting information useful to Israelis in exchange for aid.
Every message-including photos, phone numbers, or addresses-is fed into a specialized Israeli data analysis system focused on mapping human and social networks across Gaza.
The threat posed by this unit extends beyond leaking information; it also impacts Gazans psychologically and socially. They seek to instill a sense of helplessness while promoting the notion that survival depends on collaboration with occupiers-effectively aiming to fracture Gazan society.
