U.S. Extends National Emergency Status on Iran

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Al-Youm, U.S. President Donald Trump has renewed the national emergency concerning Iran for an additional year.
This decision, which continues unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, was announced in an official statement published on the Federal Register website. It signals Washington’s persistence in applying economic and political pressure on Tehran.
The statement reads: “Relations with Iran have not returned to normal. Therefore, the national emergency declared on November 14,1979,and measures taken to address it will remain in effect beyond November 14,2025. This status is extended for one more year.”
The national emergency was originally declared by Jimmy Carter, the thirty-ninth U.S. president. Through Executive Order 12170, he authorized the U.S. Treasury Department to freeze all official Iranian assets within the United States and its foreign subsidiaries-marking the start of extensive economic sanctions against Iran. Additionally, diplomatic relations with Tehran were severed; trade of goods between both countries-including food and medicine-and travel by American citizens to Iran were restricted.
