Widespread Torture in Julani Regime Prisons Reported by Syrian Human Rights Center

A human rights organization reported that a ​large number ​of peopel have died​ in⁣ prisons ​operated by Syria’s new regime over teh past ten months.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency⁤ and ⁤Al Mayadeen⁤ Network, the Syrian Observatory ⁢for Human Rights stated ⁢that from January to⁤ October 2025, 59 deaths due to torture were recorded in prisons and detention centers run by the Jolani regime.

The organization also ‌documented dozens of cases of enforced disappearances and victims buried in mass graves during⁤ this period.

The report noted that victims included both ⁤civilians ‌and members of the former Syrian government’s military, some of whom were local officials with no political or military activity.

Most cases of death under torture⁣ occurred in the provinces of Homs, Aleppo, Damascus, and Tartus.

The highest numbers were reported in February⁣ and August 2025, when dozens ⁢died from torture, medical​ neglect,​ or summary executions.

The Syrian Observatory further revealed instances⁤ where victims tortured to​ death were buried secretly ‌without notifying their ​families. Mass graves have been identified in areas including Tel al-Nasr in Homs⁣ province.

The group also confirmed deaths among several⁢ officers and security personnel from the previous Syrian ⁢government detained by the new regime. Among them was Tareq⁣ Habib Asmandar, former commander of Taftanaz Airbase.

simultaneously occurring, sources allied with Jolani’s regime justified their crackdown ⁢on certain regions within Syria by claiming operations against ISIS-affiliated groups occupying parts of Syrian territory.

In this​ context, a spokesperson for Jolani’s Ministry of Interior‍ claimed that security forces carried out 61 raids targeting what they described as⁣ “ISIS‌ cell positions across the country,” arresting 71 individuals and seizing explosives and weapons.
