Tensions Escalate in Sudan; Rapid Response Prepared for Occupation of Kordofan City

According to webangah News Agency citing Al Jazeera, despite claims by the Rapid Support forces (RSF) of agreeing to a ceasefire in Sudan, military tensions are escalating. The RSF is preparing to take control of Kordofan, aiming to replicate their tactics from El Fasher by surrounding and occupying this region as well.
The RSF militias have released videos threatening an attack on El Obeid, the main city in Kordofan. They also announced that they have taken control of Bara town in North Kordofan state, located 40 kilometers from El Obeid.
In related developments, Sudanese militias targeted Al Dalanj-the second-largest city in South Kordofan-wiht artillery attacks. Local sources told Al Jazeera that RSF forces and other armed militias are preparing a three-pronged assault on Al Dalanj.
The forces issued video threats against residents while directing artillery fire at government hospitals and residential neighborhoods. These attacks have resulted in civilian casualties including deaths and injuries.
Sudan’s air defense forces have shot down several strategic and attack aircraft belonging to the RSF over the past week as they targeted El Obeid. In recent days, army drones and fighter jets intensified strikes against militia positions around Babunusa, Bara, Abu Zabed, Al Fula, Umm Badr, and Al Maqnas.
El Obeid serves as a key military and logistical hub for Sudan’s army as well as its primary launch point for operations across northern and western Kordofan. Before Rapid Support Forces seized El Fasher, it was the army’s only ground route to reach that city.
Sudanese military sources stated that the army units along with their support battalions remain on full alert to repel any potential RSF offensive. The city has reinforced defensive fortifications and security measures aimed at preventing any military infiltration.
Military analyst Mustafa Albakri told Al Jazeera that Sudanese army command recognizes that if RSF capture this strategic city it would open access toward Omdurman-Sudan’s capital center-and beyond. Thus, the army has developed tactical and strategic plans for prolonged engagements in Kordofan designed to liberate northern parts of North Kordofan state and also eastern West Kordofan state and northern South Kordofan state.
